Home Made Burger with Blue Cheese

Delicious home made burger with added blue cheese for lots of flavour.

Ingredients For This Recipe

1/2 pound of lean hamburger,
1 artisan styled bun like calabrose,
1 slice of pre packaged sliced blue cheese or cut a slice from chunk of blue cheese,
few leafs of green leafy lettuce for the burger,
some pre washed greens or leafy lettuce for the side salad,
slices of red onion for the burger and salad,
slices of red cabbage for the side salad,
three cheese dressing like Kraft brand.

Make Your Burger

Put your hamburg meat in the frypan and using a spatula or rice paddle shape it for your burger or use your hands to shape your patty. Fry at medium heat till thoroughly cooked about 10 minutes. Add the blue cheese, then add foil cover over the frypan so the heat will melt the blue cheese. (Blue cheese is dense and takes longer to melt than processed or regular cheddar cheese).

Once the cheese is melted, add the hamburger to the toasted bun: add the lettuce on the bottom bun, add a slice of red onion on the burger, and for your condiment; add some Kraft Three Cheese dressing to the top bun. To toast the bun, put the oven on low broil, and place the bun face up on a cooking sheet until it is lightly toasted; takes only a couple minutes. Watch closely as it can toast rather quickly on broil.

Serve with a small side salad with pre washed greens, slices of red onion, red cabbage; and add grape tomatoes, and for your dressing add some of the three cheese dressing.

Choose Your Wine

Hamburgers have lots of fat, and cheese has lots of fat and salt. So our wine needs to pair with both the fatty content and the salty content. Red wines are usually paired with hamburgers, usually a medium or bold style. Because our blue cheese is very flavourful and salty, we must choose a wine that can match against the bold flavour and saltiness of the cheese. For this, a wine with lots of flavour or a sweet wine will do also.

The sweet wine is probably the best pairing; so we'll look for one that is a red wine(medium or bold style) and that has notes (flavours) that will compliment or pair with our hamburger.

For our Blue Cheese Hamburger Recipe, we have selected a Bold Red wine from Australia - the Yellow Tail brand. This wine is a red blend, has a sweet body, and is a great match for our burger with notes of chocolate, jammy, and vanilla. And, its' sweetness will pair well with our blue cheese. Look for Yellow Tail - Sweet Red Roo on the store shelf, priced at $11 in Halifax.

Enjoy!
