Pesto Pasta


Healthy pasta served with a flavourful pesto sauce. Easy to make and takes little preparation time.


Where to Buy


Pasta sold in all grocery stores and pesto sauce you can buy at grocery stores. For this recipe I bought the local store's (sobeys) store brand for about $5. It contains two cheeses; romano and parmesan, and spices/herbs; pepper, garlic, basil, oregano, canola oil, lemon juice, almonds.

Make Your Pasta

For the pasta you can use which ever pasta you prefer; fusilla, penne, tortiglioni. There's a few to choose from. Boil the pasta in a pot with lots of water for about 8 minutes; then drain with fresh cold water to remove any starch. Add the pasta to a mixing bowl and add 1-2 tablespoons of the pesto sauce per pasta serving.

Choose Your Wine

As with most pasta dishes, when wine pairing we look at the pasta sauce. For our pesto pasta it is herbaceous in nature, so you would think first of a Sauvignon Blanc wine as they are most often paired with such sauces. But do explore other white wines as well, as many can also be a very good match depending on what is in the pesto sauce.

This particular pesto sauce has a herbal spiciness and because it has two cheese ingredients it boost a distinct cheesy flavour. So a richer style of wine could also be considered as it will pair nicely with the richness of the cheeses.

For our Pesto Pasta Recipe, we have selected a white blend wine from Australia; Hardy's Stamp Chardonnay Semillon with a rich body and dry sweetness. It has notes of citrus, peach, and vanilla. It is a very good pairing for our pesto pasta dish. You can find this wine in the Australia country section of your NSLC store. It sells for about $13 Canadian.
